A Weight Loss Journey

Why did you start Paleo or are considering it?  My primary goal was never weight loss, it was to manage my health issues that occurred as a result of food allergies.  However, I always hoped that weight loss would be a positive side effect.  You see, I'm not the 300 lbs I was when I graduated high school, but I haven't been that weight since I had gastric bypass in 2004.  My lowest adult weight was 191 lbs a couple years ago when I was in a tumultuous relationship and just didn't feel like eating most of the time.  Not eating, whether by choice or circumstance is not a healthy option.  But where am I today?  Well, I didn't weigh myself this morning, but I can tell you that my jeans have been awfully tight and  today I am making a change.

In spite of knowing why I eat Paleo, I have been indulging in grains, dairy, sugars, and the occasional unhealthy fat.  I never do gluten because it makes me super sick, but otherwise, I've been totally off-track and my body is showing it.  Not just in weight, but in my sleep patterns, stomach aches, body aches, and sensitivity to touch.  Lately, my body has been reacting to food like it used to before I started in that everything gives me an upset stomach.  Thankfully I have my DiGize essential oil from Young Living which I rub on my stomach and it helps a ton.  But I shouldn't have to use that oil.

So today, I am starting a new plan.  I am getting back on track, but I will be logging my food on MyFitnessPal and trying to stick to a calorie limit.  Prior to Paleo I lost weight at 1200 calories, so that is my initial goal.  Will you join me in helping me be successful?  I know I'll have some "cheat" days with a couple holiday parties and holiday dinners with my parents and my in-laws, but otherwise, I'll be planning out my food and logging it.  I'm still having issues with my foot post-surgery so unfortunately, I continue to deal with limited mobility.

You can follow me on MFP at @kelbel.  I'll also be posting some of my meals (and source of the recipe if it's not my own) via Instagram and trying to blog regularly about my experience.  My family is also on a really tight budget right now so I will do my best to post about how we're managing financial challenges and living a Paleo life.  Just because it's the holiday season doesn't mean we can't continue to prioritize our health.

Are you in?  Let's strive to finish 2016 healthier and stronger!
